If you are reading this article, I am assuming that you are interested in improving your average. Further I am assuming that you are not already a 190 or better bowler...

I am a 210 average bowler and have averaged over 200 for over 10 years. I am a certified Level I coach and have coached a lot of people helping them to increase their averages as much as 50 pins!

While I am no genius when it comes to bowling, the old adage, "if at first you don't succeed, try, try again" holds true when it comes to bowling. I have had several coaches who have all led me down their specific paths, and have found that no matter how much I tried to imitate them; ultimately I needed to have my own style...

What is bowling style? Style is the way that you approach your bowling shot. What you do before you get on the approach, what you do when you get on the approach, how you hold the ball, how you make your approach, and how you release the ball. Wow, that was a mouthful! :) Basically style is how YOU throw the ball down the lane. I do not know you and have never seen you bowl, so I cannot tell you what your current style is. However, I can give you basic pointers on what you need to do so that you are more consistent in your style, thus improving your scores on the lanes.

Answer the following questions. Are you serious about getting better? Are you will to do what it takes to get better? Do you have the time to put in to improve?

If you can answer yes to the questions above, then you are ready to work on your style and form. If you cannot, then you are in bowling to have fun... That is not a bad thing... But don't think that without working at it you are going to improve (that statement is true with anything you do, by the way). There is not a lot I can do to help you at this point, so just go out and have fun, bowl what you bowl and enjoy it... it is fun!

Style is something we talk about a lot. Who has it, Who doesn't have it, How we can get it. I think style is something that is very personal and as with anything it is all about an individuals perception. There are some people though who have unarguably got style in almost everyones eyes. So what is style and how do we get it?

I don't by any means profess to know everything about style. I think that style is defined by a persons identity, it tells you a little about them and who they are. Style is not about how much someone spends on clothes or whether they wear designer clothes, it is not about whether they are in fashion or their clothes are on trend, it is not about whether they have the figure of a super model.

These things can of course go hand in hand with style but equally often they do not. Take for example a dedicated follower of fashion who always buys the latest look as soon as it appears in the shops regardless of whether it suits her. Style is about looking effortless, comfortable and confident in what you are wearing. It is not just about what you wear, it is about how you wear it.

When it comes to style I don't think there are really any rules. I write about style, but I am really only giving ideas and suggestions. The way to look stylish is to wear what really looks good on you and makes you feel great. The confidence that you exude when you know you look and feel great is the key to being stylish.

Take a really expensive body con outfit and some outrageously expensive and uncomfortable high high heels, no matter how much money I spent on these items, I would not feel right and so would not look stylish, as they are just not me. Think of the compliments you hear when you wear your favourite outfit and how great this makes you feel, this is what style is about.

Over the years, over-use and abuse of the key word-Style and Fashion have tended to transform their original meanings to suit the errors of the abusers. Also their inter-changeable usages have compounded their meanings.

The Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (11th Edition), defines Fashion as the prevailing (dress) Style during a particular time: and Style as a distinctive manner of (dressing). (Emphasis on dress, dressing for the purpose of this article)

From these meanings, we see that Fashion is an offshoot of Style. Fashion is the prevailing Style of a particular period. People of Style are not necessarily subject to Fashion, but Fashionable people must of necessity conform to the prevailing Style.

Another thing to note is that Fashion revolves, while Style evolves. The evolution of Style has brought about bell-bottoms, jump-ups, high waistbands, etc for men. In the late 60s and early 70s, crazy after Style icon James Brown, men wore bell-buttons trousers and tight-fitting shirts with shoes so high they were variously nicknamed, five foot above sea level, upstairs etc.

In the early 80s, young men copied Michael Jackson’s high waist band, jump-up black trouser (show me your stockings) and a white pair of stocks to contrast. Figure out what man will wear those things today.Several times, attempts have been made to strike a come back for these old skools, but the truth is that better taste will never let them prevail. This is what I mean by evolution.

On the other hand, check out the history of women’s dress-from the corset to tight-knee, to micro mini, maxi, ball gown and back to all of them again. They are always in a revolution. What goes around comes around.

So much is said [and written] about leadership. All questions are answered, it seems. How should you lead? What are the requirements to be a successful leader? How should a leader handle his/her followers? What are the better leadership styles? Everyone knows how to delegate, discipline, and develop your followers. We are also taught how to determine and use vision, mission, motivation and the like. In general, we live in times where the science of leadership, in all aspects has been thoroughly covered. Or has it?

I have often queried the fact that leadership gurus feel so secure in their statement that a 'one best leadership style' does not exist. How can they make such a statement when they have not properly researched the leadership style of the most important leader of all times? In my thesis and subsequent series of books on True Shepherd Leadership, I provide much evidence that a best leadership style does in fact exist, and that Christians are in fact instructed to apply the same leadership style. It is not as if we received a hint, pointing to the fact that if all else failed, we could perhaps consider this as a last resort, or handy alternative. We are admonished to go and do as Jesus did. We were supposed to lead according to the style that Jesus described and exhibited. We are supposed to be True Shepherd Leaders according to the example of Jesus.

Questions that need to be answered are:

[a] How did Jesus lead, and
[b] how do we know that it is the best leadership style?

Let us start with the second question, which to my mind is the easiest to answer. How can we say that the True Shepherd Leadership style, [the leadership style of Jesus Christ] is the best of all leadership styles? My suggestion to the doubtful ones is always to answer the following two easy questions: [i] Was Jesus in fact the most important leader ever on this earth, and [ii] would Jesus [being the Son of God] use an inferior leadership style, considering that He had all knowledge from eternal past to eternal future at His avail?

Creating a High Performance Coaching Style

Sports Coaches all have a preferred coaching style. A coaching style is a way of behaving. Coaches spend most of their time using their preferred coaching style. Sometimes this style works well for them. Sometimes it doesn't. Knowing what your coaching style is and being able to change it, is critical in order to appeal to the different types of athletes that you coach. Using a style that is incompatible with your athlete's needs will result in you becoming frustrated that the athlete is not making changes and it will also result in the athlete becoming frustrated that they are not being coached effectively.

The problem is, so often I have seen the incorrect coaching style used with the previously mentioned results yet no-one knew why the problem was occurring. The coach just gave up and the athlete left to be coached by someone else or they left the sport altogether.

Using the Athlete DISC profile, will enable you to identify your coaching style. When your athletes also complete their profile, the information you get will enable you to use the correct style with each athlete. Coach behavior should be a way to connect athlete understanding with the concepts and skills the coach is trying to improve within the objectives of the session (Hall & Smith 2006). With each of the four behavioral styles outlined in the Athlete DISC, there's a different way to communicate, connect with, provide feedback and motivate and counsel them. How to do all this is the basis of our Coach Education webinars and the purpose of this article is to explain how to generally learn more about the coaching styles and how to be more effective in coaching your athletes.

Most women look to celebrities when they want a new hair style. Sometimes this can spell disaster for some people. Hair styles are not a one size fits all. There are many different factors that can make of break a certain hair style. For example, consider your hair texture.
